Gender inclusive post flood and landslide reconstruction (2018) in Kerala

In 2018, Kerala witnessed one of its worst natural calamities with floods and land slides rampaging the entire State leaving several thousands home less.

Sakhi Womens Resource Centre, India (a pioneering NGO working towards empowering women with information and knowledge and creating opportunities for their leadership development and towards mainstreaming gender in the political and social discourses of India) with financial support from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, engaged the services of Inspiration to provide housing for the most marginalised single women/ women headed house holds in two panchayats in Kerala.

With the support of local Panchayat members and the Community leaders, over 40 individual houses in different locations were built with all amenities including rain water harvesting, smokeless cooking stoves, kitchen gardens, and design features such as access ramps for differently abled etc within a period of one year. Almost 35-40% materials have been recycled from  existing houses.
