A Modern Take on Tradition – Interior Remodel of an Apartment Using Wood, ColoredOxides, and Stone

This apartment remodel aimed to explore the use of craft and natural materials to bring a contemporary yet vernacular ambience to a compact mid size apartment.

Within the constraints of minimal changes to the structure, the design explored use of local materials and artisanal skills including polished seasoned hardwoods, coloured IPS finishes and natural stones along with judicious use of modern materials and curated crafted accessories for an organic and timeless appeal.

The spaces celebrate traditional crafts such as bell metal artefacts and wood furniture along with contemporary expressions of artisans / artists working with sustainable materials like banana fiber, rattan, terracotta and dokra works to name a few. This approach not only supports local artisans but also celebrated the region's crafts and sets standards for a whole new take on apartment interiors which can be more earthy, sustainable and pocket friendly.

The final design created a harmonious balance of modernity and tradition, with careful attention to detail and a commitment to local craftsmanship. The result is a home that feels contemporary, timeless, and deeply connected to its cultural roots.
