GReaT Trails, Yercaud
Set amidst the serenity of the vast stretches of coffee plantations, GReaT Trails Yercaud, overlooking the Salem City in Tamilnadu, India, sits majestically on the Yercaud Hills.
The structural system of Sky Rocca itself is unique. The 41- room eco resort is built along the precarious hill slope overlooking Salem City and follows the natural curves and contours of the land, preserving every single rock formation. The radiating load bearing stone masonry walls hold the floor slabs slightly above the ground at different levels, creating a series of sprawling terrace gardens in alternating heights keeping with the natural contours and topography of the land.
This project made us explore further the limits of how one could create a contemporary architectural statement which respects the best use of the local material - stone.
